From the images Kristen showed us in class, I was most drawn to the Japanese masks. There are various types of masks in this category, but I liked the oni masks and the hannya masks the most. Oni are Japanese demons or orges, they range from goofy faces to terrifying faces. People often wear them during festivals and cause trouble. Hannya masks, probably my favorite, are female demons. They have similar characteristics of Oni, but with horns. I love how creepy the faces are and how much detail they have, like how deep the creases in the face; I just find them really interesting and beautiful. I found one image a mask that was more human like but the face is splitting in half, and where it's splitting there's a third eye. It's got human characteristics but kind of like a cyclopses. In class, I'm combining the Hannya with the splitting face idea.
